Steam Traction World

Steam Traction World kits are designed to be assembled with limited access to engineering facilities and machine tools. Boilers are supplied fully constructed, either silver soldered (brazed) throughout if made of copper or welded if made of steel. Both types are hydraulically tested to twice working pressure.

Steam Traction World is a private company. We occupy our own 11.000 sq ft facility in Daventry, England. It is though primarily a manufacturing site with a large machining area (both CNC and manual) together with boiler shop for both copper and steel boilers an extensive stores / packing area and an assembly area for our control models. We now have over 1,000 Customers worldwide enjoying a hobby that was previously, for various reasons not available to them.

Steam Traction World continues to improved our designs, bring out new models on a regular basis and to focus on both quality of manufacture and, value for money. We all only have so much time to achieve what we would like to accomplish in life.

Meet the Team:
Dean Rogers
Born in Middlesbrough, Dean moved to the Daventry area in 1978 with his parents. A promising snooker player who made his first hundred break by the age of 16. Dean moved into the fibreglass industry making patterns and parts for numerous projects including speed boats and cobra car kits. 1997 saw a change of career to engineering and Dean quickly progressed to CNC milling and turning, programming and setting 2, 3 and 4 axis machines. From this Dean progressed to production management.

Steve Baldock
Steve has been interested in steam since the age of 12 and built his first engine at 15/16 - a 3.5 gauge Titch. Steve then progressed to a 5" gauge Princess of Wales and a 5" gauge LNER Enterprise by the age of 24. Steve completed his first 4" scale Foster T/Engine at the age of 37 then embarked on building 2 half size Atkinson Steam lorries and a half size Burrell Showmans engine. Steve changed his career after his first mid life crisis from a senior manager at RS Components to building and manufacturing predominently 4" scale traction engines. Steve has produced countless 4" scale Garrett and other engines before tackling his most challenging project yet (apart from working with Dean) a 4" scale Hornsby Foster Chain Track Tractor - the first 4" scale version ever finished. This tractor was completed in 2004 and hailed by many model engineers as the best miniature ever produced!
